Wind damage · Dayton & the Miami Valley

Wind damage roof repair. Creased, lifted and missing shingles, documented.

Straight-line winds tear tabs loose, crease shingles and break their seal, and a lifted shingle can leak long after the storm passes. We find it, photograph it, tarp it if it’s open, and fix it right.

Wind-torn and displaced shingles along the ridge of a Dayton, Ohio roof
Dayton, OHWind-torn ridge

Wind damage hides in the seal strip

Asphalt shingles are held down by nails and a factory sealant strip. A strong gust can lift a tab, break that seal and crease the shingle, and once it’s creased it no longer lies flat. The next storm finishes the job. From the ground, a creased shingle can look perfectly normal.

Missing shingles and debris in the yard are obvious. The quieter signs are lifted edges along the rakes and ridge, horizontal crease lines across tabs, and new drips in the attic. We check every slope and chalk-mark each creased or unsealed tab so you, and your adjuster, can see exactly what the wind did.

Spot repair or full replacement?

A few missing shingles on a sound roof is a repair. Widespread creasing is different: creased shingles have lost their wind resistance, and a patchwork of new and old shingles may not match or seal.

When replacement is the answer, the installation details decide how the next storm goes. GAF Timberline shingles with LayerLock technology, installed with at least four qualifying GAF accessories, are eligible for GAF’s WindProven limited wind warranty, which has no maximum wind speed limitation. Our written estimate tells you which path the evidence supports, and why.

  • “Dominic was there every step of the way to help navigate the complicated insurance claim process, and went above and beyond to assist us in proving an entire replacement was necessary. Once the day came to make the replacement, the crew was fast and efficient. The replacement was completed in 2 days and once finished the only sign they had even been there was our brand new roof.”

He came out and arrived within the one hour time window, got right to assessing the damage and fixed it right there! He was quick, efficient, professional and very kind. … He wasn't pushy at all. He assessed everything and gave us a plan.”

FAQ

Wind Damage Roof Repair questions

How much wind does it take to damage a roof?

It depends on the shingle, its age and how it was installed. Older or poorly sealed shingles can lift in gusts well below their rating, while a properly installed modern system holds up far better. After any storm with high winds, an inspection is cheap insurance, and ours is free.

Is wind damage covered by insurance?

Wind is a covered peril under many Ohio homeowners policies, though deductibles and terms vary and wear or age is usually excluded. We document what we find so you can decide whether a claim makes sense.

Can you just replace the missing shingles?

Often, yes, if the rest of the roof is sound and we can get a reasonable match. If the surrounding shingles are creased or unsealed, a spot repair may not hold, and we will show you the photos that explain why.

My roof is leaking after a windstorm. What should I do?

Call 937-80-ROOFS. Move valuables away from the leak and catch the water if it’s safe to do so. Stay off the roof. We put active leaks first after storms and can tarp the opening until permanent repairs are made.
