Soffit & fascia · Dayton & the Miami Valley

Soffit and fascia repair. Fix the rot, and the reason it rotted.

Fascia boards rot when water gets behind the gutter or runs off a roof edge with no drip edge. Then the soffit sags, the vents clog and animals move in. We fix the wood, the trim and the water problem that started it.

Jamestown, OHRotted fascia board

The roof edge is where water does the most damage

Fascia is the board behind your gutters; soffit is the underside of the overhang. Together they close off the roof edge, carry the gutters and, when the soffit is vented, let your attic breathe.

When gutters overflow or a roof edge has no drip edge, water wicks into the fascia and rots it from behind. The gutter pulls away, the soffit sags, and openings appear for birds, bats and squirrels. Hail and wind can dent or tear the aluminum wrap and vented panels too.

A lasting repair fixes the cause: we replace rotted boards, wrap or replace trim, restore soffit ventilation and correct the gutter or roof-edge problem that started it.

Soffit vents and the life of your roof

Soffit vents are the intake half of most attic ventilation systems. When they’re painted over, blocked by insulation or swapped for solid panels, the attic runs hotter and wetter, which shortens shingle life and can cause winter condensation. We check the intake every time we touch the soffit.

FAQ

Soffit & Fascia Repair questions

What’s the difference between soffit and fascia?

Fascia is the vertical board along the roof edge that the gutters attach to. Soffit is the horizontal panel under the overhang, often vented to bring air into the attic.

Why does fascia rot?

Almost always water: clogged or overflowing gutters, a missing drip edge, or a gutter hung so water runs behind it. Replacing the board without fixing the water path just restarts the clock.

Can you fix soffit and fascia without replacing the gutters?

Often, yes. We can take down and re-hang existing gutters after the fascia repair if they’re in good shape. If they’re damaged or undersized, we’ll quote seamless gutters as an option.

Is storm damage to soffit and fascia covered by insurance?

Hail and wind damage to exterior trim is commonly part of a storm claim when the policy covers the peril. Rot from long-term water is usually treated as maintenance. We document which is which.
